It's Time to Get Your 2011 Flu Shot

flu shot imageHave you gotten your Flu Shot yet? Put that on the top of your to-do list for your self and your family. Everyone should get a Flu Shot this year to help prevent "catching the Flu," but the CDC urges pregnant women and young children, especially to get their Flu Shot. There are no reported shortages of the flu vaccine, so if you are over 6 months old and have no allergy to the flu vaccine, you should go get your Flu Shot!

There are some choices this year on how you may want to receive your Flu Shot. The traditional flu shot, the nasal spray (only for ages 2-49), a high-dose flu shot (only for 65 and older), and a new this year, Intradermal Fluzone- vaccine delivered through the skin instead of the muscle (only for ages 18-64).

The 2011 flu vaccine will protect you against H1N1, just like 2010 flu vaccine did. The good news for kids is if they received 2 doses of 2010-2011 vaccine, they may only need 1 dose of the 2011-2012 depending on their age. Check with your heath care provider.

Need help finding the closest place to get your Flu Shot for your family? Start with your pediatrician for young children. For older children and adults, use our Flu Vaccine Finder and mark it off of your to-do list. I promise you will thank me for it later.
