REASONS FOR THE RECALL
McNeil Consumer Healthcare initiated this voluntary recall because some of these products may not meet required quality standards. This recall is not being undertaken because of any specific adverse effects. Parents and caregivers should not administer these products to their kids. While the potential for serious harm is remote, if you have these recalled products, you should get rid of them. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO
So what do you do if your child gets sick? Most of the recalled products are available in a generic. Generics have the same active ingredient as the brand name products (i.e. Tylenol®), and are usually less expensive. Ask your pharmacist for a recommendation and they can help you find the most appropriate medicine for your child. Some generic products are on back order because of the huge increase in demand because of this recall. Keep checking at your favorite retail store or pharmacy and they will restock them as they become available.
